Women workers in America during World War Two building aircraft.
Call up by lottery. Men in various jobs leave for war, short order cook, farmer, Western Union, cab driver. Call up papers for 1941 and 1942. More short order cooks called up. Jobs are taken by women. Women welders on a production line. They are trained to do men's jobs in an aircraft factory. Dramatised sequence where a woman receives a telegram saying her husband is missing in the war. She learns to be a welder. On the factory floor male worker wolf whistles at a woman worker wearing slacks with a Veronica Lake haircut. Aircraft lined up on the factory floor under construction. Lunch break for the women. Leaving the factory. The woman picks her son up from school.
