Mallard locomotive. Good steam train through countryside shots and aerial. Scenes in the cabin 1980's
John Huntley recounts the story of Sir Nigel Gresley's famous locomotive which broke the speed record I 1938, reaching 126mph in a test run over a section of the former LNER East Coast main line near Little Bytham. The history of the Mallard is told from its launch in 1938 to its withdrawal in 1963 and its eventual return to steam. The story of The Mallard combines original stills of the locomotive's record-breaking run with vibrant footage shot at the time of her 50th anniversary rerun in 1988, and includes a visit to her home at York Railway Museum.
