Synopsis:

Farming in Umbria in Italy post world war two early 1950's. Idyllic Italy

Olive picking. All members of the family help, including children. The olives are sorted by hand. An aged man and a child on a cart pulled by a donkey transport olives to mill. Large stone grinding for olive oil. Then to presses for squeezing. The child tastes the oil. A cart pulled by a horse, in the back a child and some chickens in a basket, going to market. View of the monastery of Assisi. Monks tending fields. View of the city of Assisi, Umbria, Italy, Europe. The cart passes through the old city wall. The Church of St Francis of Assisi. Market, 'mamma' sells chickens. A woman sitting on a wall embroidering a table cloth, pottery being painted. People in the square playing 'bocce' (a kind of boules or bowls). A fountain. The family get back on the cart and leave.

The family on their way back home. Mamma cooks polenta in a large pot placed inside a fireplace in which she can almost stand. Children help to make the dinner. Table is set under the trees. Mamma brings the polenta in a big tray which she carries above her head. Eating polenta and spaghetti. Lots of people sitting around the table to eat pasta. Mother pour some olive oil over salad and mixes it. Music - man plays accordion while children listen. Man playing fiddle, Children dance. Donkey cart with family in it. Feed dog spaghetti. Children dancing. Man lifts boy on dry stone wall.
