Housing, pre fabricated council housing estate in Oldham 1960's
Demolishing back to back housing. Oldham city centre. Victorian red brick terrace houses "Street after street of grey monotony". School playground. Slum clearance makes way for " Houses from the factory". Half completed council; estate on a huge scale. The flat unit being made at the factory. Production line steel rod reinforced concrete floor and wall unit ready for slotting together on site. Hollow core make the unit lighter. The units are then stored in the builders yard until required then taken to the site by lorry. Huge levelled site in Oldham. Covered way and footbridges. Building in progress. The building site workers slot the units together. No plaster or render is required. The electrician and plumbers work with pre packed sizes of what they need for each flat. Service roads. In the architect's office a model of the completed building programme. The whole film seems to be aimed at the councils. Cranes positioning the units. Timber window frames in production. Finished modern blocks of flats. Young couple take a tour of show flat. Great shots of modern Sixties décor and furniture.
