Synopsis:

Lesser Antilles, West Indies. Airstrip. Propeller plane taxis. Two black women wait and collect their children from white airline stewardess. Guadeloupe colony divided into two main islands, Guadeloupe and Grand Terre. Capital of French colony is Point a Pitre Port. Cargoes of charcoal. Markets. Patronising commentary refers to negroes under French influence. General views of town. New buildings, plus old in wood. Cathedral, chamber of commerce, hotel, central market. Countryside, fields of sugar cane. Hills. Seaside buildings. Two girls walk down external staircase. Men pull boat ashore and fishermen show fish to camera. Two men carry lots of fish off beach. Monument to Victor Schoelcher admired by children. Woman in headdress drops bucket into well. Carries flask on head. Two women with baskets on head. Woman looks over fields of sugar cane, and palm trees. Cane cutters, donkey loaded with cane walks along. Men sit at lunch hour under shelter. Offer food to white man. White man ploughs with two oxen and wooden plough. Coffee growing . Coffee berries. Coconut palms and hump-backed cattle. Men carry wood. Sawmill with hand operated saws, two men (one above and one below). Three saws work side by side. Very large stack of conch shells (for calcium). Man climbs ladder to top of stack. Man shovelling conch shell powder. Rocky coast, Point de Chateau. Waves breaking. Large cross on cliff top.
