The story of the Holocaust that was initiated by the Nazis of Germany during World War Two. The film uses archive footage extensively but also utilises images of concentrations camps from the 1960s.
Desolate landscape and barbed wire. A derelict concentration camp.
B/W 1933 archive footage: Nazi troops marching with flags; crowds salute; speeches. Stills of different concentration camps - different styles of architecture. Newly arrested people in transit camps. Train station; German officers supervise, they look into cattle wagons. Jews wearing the Star of David. Wagon with seventy-four persons written on it. Closing the wagon doors. Train moves off. Arrives at station in night and fog. German troops with guns. Shot of camp gate with 'Arbeit Macht Frei' (Work Makes Free). More stills: 'the baths'; naked people shaved tattooed and numbered. Stills detailing the hierarchy of the camp: red triangle, green triangle, Jew, Kapo, criminal, SS Commandant.

Film of orphanage children in the snow. Invalids on crutches; barbed wire; sick men in hospital. Surgical block. SS doctor and nurse. Chemical toxins to be tested on patients. Medical experiments; castrations; phosphorous burns. Documentation of prisoners. Room of a Kapo (prison boss). Camp brothel, Commandant and wife. Semblance of a town in the camp: hospitals, prisons.

Colour film: the incinerator.
B/W film: more deportations; trains; corpses in a railway wagon. A gas chamber looking like an ordinary block from the outside. Naked people; gas cannisters. From the inside the gas chambers look like shower rooms. Burning of gassed bodies; piles of glasses, shoes, hair. Hair was sold to make cloth; bones for manure; bodies for soup; skin for paper and art drawing. In 1945 the camps were full, towns of 100, 000 people. Aerial shots. Factories use labour from camps. New towns supply labour for the factories. Bulldozers shovelling bodies. When the allies reached the camps they found mass graves. Women prison officers being marched off by allied troops. Male officers, some in German uniform. German guards dumping bodies and skulls. Prisoners behind wire. Kapo and officer in captivity.
