A film made for a holiday company to promote their tour to Austria. It takes us on a breezy tour of the mountainous Tyrol region 1950's
and includes good footage of mountain scenery and villages, and the cities of Innsbruck and Salzburg.
A train. Views of mountains in the Tyrol region. Innsbruck, its main street Maria Theresien Strasse, the triumphal arch (Triumphpforte), its Medieval streets and modern shops. Tourists visit a jeweller's. Gipsy musicians provide music for traditional dancers around a maypole: lots of thigh-slapping.
We are introduced to several Medieval villages in the mountains and valleys. Tourists stop off at the Poly office. Seefeld and the surrounding countryside, a walk through the forest, timber buildings, a local wine house and a village band. Rowing on a lake. A chair lift and mountain scenery. Mittenbaum: its statues and a violin-maker at work. A castle. A place celebrated for its wood carvings; a theatre performance in an old theatre, old props and actor Anton Lang. A cable car through the mountains. More views of mountain villages and scenery. Lakeside scenes: swimming and bathing. Meadows carpeted with flowers. Rural workers hay-making. A gorge. Fishing at Bad Aussee near Salzburg.
A female tourist gets a lift on the back of a cart carrying wood to a wood carving school: shots of the carving and students showing examples of their work. Schoolchildren dressed in white for a visit to a salt mine. Blocks for printing patterns onto fabrics, a traditional craft. Views of the Castle Hotel, once the hunting castle of one of the Archbishops of Salzburg, later the home of von Ribbentrop. The White Horse Inn and lake.
Views of Salzburg. Closer views of the Spielhaus (festival theatre), the cathedral, square and fountains. Statue of Mozart. The palace of Hellbrunn, with its hidden fountains and other water devices. Wrought-iron signs, some animated, that are a feature of Salzburg. The Landestheater. Old castles next to a modern power station in a mountainous setting. Cattle and a pony. A cable car and more mountainous scenery. The Hotel Arlberg. A Corpus Christi procession in a village. Tourists return to their coach and leave. The train again.
