A reconstruction of the first appearance of the British tank in the battle of the Somme.
Two German soldiers in bunker, protected by sand bags, with machine gun (shot from behind with no-mans-land and explosion in background). Troops appear in top of frame and advance towards machine gun post. The advancing troops are British. They fall and jump into bomb craters. Shots of British machine gun being fired against advancing British troops. British soldiers in crater digging deeper for shelter. They speak to each other. Out of mist that is no-mans-land emerges one of the first tanks. The soldiers cannot believe their eyes as this enormous vehicle rolls by avoiding their crater. Solders fall in behind it. It crashes barbed wire. Close-ups of World War One tank and rolls on towards the German machine gun emplacement.
