Speaks into microphones once on runway. States he is excited about Convention and that the disagreements make it potentially positive. Press all around him.
1968 - Sound - Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.. 1968 Democratic Platform Hearings. Large hall, chandeliers. Long shot of row of desks at front of hall at which Democrat delegates sit. Democrat sitting in audience warns against the individual becoming more important than the group. Another calls for policies which make their first consideration the health of U.S.A.. Another calls for the Democrats to initiate a policy of free choice for the Vietnamese Government in relation to a peace deal.
27.8.68 - Sound - Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.. Mayor Delaney of Chicago announces that Illinois delegates support Humphrey. Delaney stands with other delegates while speaking. He reads out results of votes from delegates which sees Hubert Humphrey win. Cheers and applause. Three votes for McCarthy and same for McGovern. Warns people not to prevent others for speaking for Humphrey. States that Humphrey will carry out the policies initiated by John F. Kennedy before his death.
