The life of Da Vinci through his drawings 1980's
Examples of Leonardo Da Vinci's drawings: horses; lions; human head; knight on horse killing dragon; a stalking cat; cats fighting; a boy's face juxtaposed with that of an old man (a recurring theme); plans for a sluice gate and an irrigation system. Da Vinci's drawings of water are compared, by the male commentator, to that of his drawings of the hair of a woman. A drawing of a piece of cloth draped over a chair is linked, by the voice-over, to movement and gravity. Human profiles; grotesque faces. Drawings of the human skull. An actor reads a letter that Da Vinci is supposed to have sent to the Duke of Milan promising the production of new weapons, an armoured car, and various other implements which are illustrated by Da Vinci's drawings. Architectural drawings. Sketches for Da Vinci's 'Last Supper'. Anatomical studies: drawings of naked men; their muscle groups; human organs; a cross section of the human skull; studies of human hands; a grove of trees (the voice over speaks of Da Vinci's search for the universal); acorns; berries; rocks. More shots of his sketch books complete with notes.
Drawings of swirling water and clouds (the voice over states that these were drawn by an aging Da Vinci). Ethereal sketches of the human form which are said to be the last of Da Vinci's drawings.
